northern parts of Santon, Aunis former was covered with a dense forest known as d'Argenson and stood at the border with Pictave. It was therefore probably inhabited later than the rest of the territory of Santon, inhabited by modern humans since the Paleolithic and experienced an intense activity during the Neolithic: the civilization of Little Richard in the form of circular fortified camps.
